ABOUT
GREGORIO “Gary” UMALI, award winning artist, an aircraft engineer, and a recreational pilot based in Christchurch, New Zealand, embrace his passion and love for the arts amid his rewarding career in the aviation industry. His passion for flying opened another significant door he never thought and imagined he can explore. His worthy experiences as a pilot let him witness and appreciate the vast blue skies and awe-inspiring clouds which everyone dreamed to see. This led him to start believing that through painting, he can transform subjects into different hues, shapes, and perspectives that the world is just awaiting to see; something where the flights of dreams and realities are turned into picturesque masterpieces.
Witnessing right before his eyes the beauty and serenity of his home country, the Philippines, and his new country, New Zealand, revealed to him his humble desires to put these as well in timeless paintings forever framed in one’s heart.
As a self-taught artist, he received a significant number of art awards in the Philippines. His artworks focused on natural sceneries and environments where he highlights the healing and contemplation of one’s well-being. His dedication in making arts was strengthened by his purpose to reach minds, hearts and souls and share a piece of himself through art expression.
Over the years, the center of his gravity now lies between aviation and arts. With the strokes of brush and the colors of palette, he goes above ground level to show how powerful art is; it changes one’s mood and perspective and influences the way we think and feel. With his energy, he plans to conquer this altitude with passion and purpose with the hope to reach and inspire people.
“How Great Thou Art” that he is now confidently ready to open his artworks to people. A true artist’s works are not only intended for them but for the audience to appreciate and love.
